Home/Colorado/Denver/Codes in Force

Which codes apply to MEP drawings in Denver?

Denver enforces the 2025 Denver Building and Fire Code, based on the 2024 International Codes.

The 2025 Denver Building and Fire Code took effect on December 31, 2025, and new projects submitted after that date must be drawn to it. Denver's Community Planning and Development (CPD) department reviews permit drawings. Suburbs such as Aurora, Lakewood and Englewood adopt their own editions, so a Denver set may need changes for a neighbouring city.

  • Building & residential — 2024 IBC and IRC with Denver amendments
  • Electrical — 2023 NEC
  • Plumbing & mechanical — 2024 IPC and IMC with Denver amendments
  • Energy — 2021 IECC with Denver amendments

Home/Colorado/Denver/PE Stamping

Do Denver, CO MEP drawings need a PE stamp?

It depends on your project and your AHJ — we check before you pay.

Commercial MEP drawings in Denver generally need a Colorado-licensed engineer's seal. Many single-family projects don't. Engineers who seal drawings in Colorado are licensed by the Colorado State Board of Licensure for Architects, Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors.

If your project needs sealed MEP drawings, we confirm during scoping whether a Colorado-licensed engineer can seal your discipline and scope, and we put that in writing in your quote. If we can't arrange the seal for your project, we tell you up front, so you can have your own engineer of record review and seal the set. You never pay for drawings you can't submit.
