Home/MEP Permit Drawings/PE Stamping

PE stamping, coordinated state by state

We confirm the appropriate licensed engineer — discipline, state, and scope — before accepting each project that requires a stamp.

Many US jurisdictions require MEP drawings to bear the seal of a Professional Engineer licensed in that state. We maintain a network of licensed PEs across the United States, and we confirm the appropriate licensed engineer — discipline, state, and scope — before accepting each project that requires a stamp.

What that means in practice:

  • Your project is matched to a PE licensed in the project jurisdiction.
  • The engineer reviews the drawings and takes professional responsibility for the sealed work, as state law requires.
  • Stamping is coordinated as part of your package — one point of contact, no chasing engineers yourself.

We do not promise a stamp for every project in every jurisdiction — no honest firm can, because each AHJ sets its own rules. What we do promise is to verify stampability up front, before you spend a dollar.

Home/MEP Permit Drawings/FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What are MEP permit drawings?
MEP permit drawings are the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire-protection construction documents a city or county building department requires before issuing a building permit. They show how a building’s hidden systems — power, lighting, water, drainage, heating, cooling, and fire suppression — are designed, sized, and routed, so the plan reviewer can verify code compliance before construction begins.
Which codes do your drawings follow?
We design to the code edition your jurisdiction enforces: the National Electrical Code (NEC) for electrical, the International Plumbing Code (IPC) or Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) for plumbing, the International Mechanical Code (IMC) for HVAC, and NFPA 13 / NFPA 72 for fire protection — plus your state and local amendments. We research each AHJ’s adopted codes during scoping.
Do I need a PE stamp on my MEP drawings?
It depends on your jurisdiction and project scope. Most US cities and counties require a Professional Engineer’s seal on commercial MEP drawings, and many require it on residential work above certain thresholds. We confirm your AHJ’s stamping requirements during the free consultation and match stamped projects to a PE licensed in that state.
How much do MEP permit drawings cost?
Pricing is quoted per project based on building type, square footage, number of disciplines, and scope — commercial work costs more than residential. We give you a fixed quote with a delivery timeline before any work starts, so there are no surprises. The initial consultation is free.
How long does it take to get MEP drawings done?
A typical residential package takes 5–7 business days from receipt of complete architectural plans; light-commercial packages take 7–14 business days depending on scope. Rush service is available for tight permit deadlines. Your exact timeline is confirmed in writing with your quote.
What do you need from me to start?
Your architectural floor plans (PDF or DWG — even clear hand sketches work to begin), the project address, and the jurisdiction you’re permitting in. From that we research your AHJ’s submittal requirements, code editions, and stamping rules, then send your fixed quote.
What if the city reviewer asks for corrections?
That’s normal — most jurisdictions issue at least one round of plan-review comments. We revise your drawings to address the reviewer’s MEP comments at no additional charge, and keep revising through the review cycle until your permit is approved.
Do you work in my state?
We prepare MEP permit drawings for all 50 states. Because every city and county has its own submittal format, code edition, and stamping rules, we research your specific AHJ before drafting — so the set arrives formatted the way your reviewer expects.
What’s the difference between permit drawings and shop drawings?
Permit drawings prove code compliance to the AHJ and get your permit issued; they’re diagrammatic and performance-based. Shop drawings are the fabricator/installer-level detail produced later for actual construction. We produce both — most clients start with the permit set.
Can you convert my existing PDF or scanned drawings to DWG?
Yes. We convert PDFs, scans, and even hand sketches into editable DWG files, which can then serve as the base for a full MEP permit package or be used on their own.
